James Willard Schultz
James Willard Schultz (1859-1947) was inducted into the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame. Originally from New York, he embraced Native American living and married a woman of the Blackfoot tribe. He wrote and published numerous books about his experiences adapting to life in the West. This includes the groundbreaking My Life as an Indian and Blackfeet Tales of Glacier National Park, which is available as a free ebook through gutenberg.org. Another excellent choice is this e-book: Gold Cache, courtesy of the Heritage History website (https://www.heritage-history.com/index.php).
The son of James Willard Schultz is Lone Wolf (1882-1965), a respected artist whose paintings were purchased by significant patrons of the arts during his day. Read more about Lone Wolf at https://www.askart.com/artist_bio/Lone_Wolf/10033169/Lone_Wolf.aspx.
Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame
According to cutbankpioneerpress.com, not only is Schultz in the Cowboy Hall of Fame but so is Francis X. Guardipee, the son of a close friend of Schultz’s named Eli. Guardipee was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2018.
“Designated by Montana State Legislature, the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame preserves and passes forward our rich cultural heritage through the celebration of inductees and their notable contributions that have shaped our collective Montana Western heritage. While one might assume that the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame exists to recognize Montana’s famous cowboys (and in part we do), the reach of the Hall of Fame is far greater. The Hall of Fame exists to celebrate all of our Montana Western heritage.” — https://montanacowboyfame.org.
